The maiden Plateau North Peace, Unity and Reconciliation Football Tournament organized and sponsored by Senator Istifanus Gyang has been flagged off on Saturday in Jos.

Senator Gyang who represents Plateau North in the National Assembly and Deputy Senate Committee Chairman on Defense said the objective of organizing the competition is to unite the diverse Ethnic groups and religious body in the Zone and foster reconciliation and peace, also to enable youths showcase their talents.

In his remark, Chairman of the occasion, Senator Jonah David Jang, the Former Governor of Plateau state, applauded Lawmaker’s initiative.

He decried the increasing unemployment rate in the country whereby teeming youths are roaming the streets and committing crimes and indulge in drug abuse, engaging them in sporting activities and creating spaces for them will keep them busy and reduce the menace of social vices.

The Former Governor made an appeal to Governor Simon Bako Lalong to Complete the Zaria Road stadium in order to boost sporting activities in the state.

The Super Eagle Skipper, Ahmed Musa said Jos weather is the best in the country and is good for football and other sports.

Musa who pleaded with the State Government to grant his request by donating a land to enabled him site a sport academy that will promote sports at the grassroot, he equally learnt his voice for the expeditious completion of the Stadium.

The Special Guest of Honour at the Event, Right Honorable Idris Wase, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, urged other representatives to emulate Senator Gyang’s initiative and organized similar Constituencies and foster peace.

Wase promised to meet the governor and convey the message on the completion of the stadium, pledged one million naira to the first position, second and third seven Hundred and five hundred naira respectively, Two million naira to Ex-Internationals.

The preliminary stage had 74 teams from the zone and 24 teams qualified for the next statge.

The game was played between Kimakpa ward in Bassa Local government and Gyel B in Jos South Local government Area.

The match ended one one draw.
Sports Fans and other dignitaries graced the event.
