International Day of Education: Professor Sule Called for better Funding of Education sector.
Education is the bed rock of Any society. Education is the tool for development. The United Nation has declared January 24th of every Year as International Day of Education globally to celebrate the role of education in bringing global peace and sustainable development. The theme for this year is “changing course, Transforming Education” and the significants of this year’s celebration will be a platform to showcase the most important transformations that have to be nurtured to realize everyone’s fundamental rights and build a more sustainable,inclusive and peaceful future.
Speaking on the day and the need for better funding of education to foster even development.
The Executive Chairman of Plateau state Primary Education Board, Professor Mathew Sule, Spoke on the challenges bedeviling the sector.
Professor Sule said the justification and rationale of the day means that something most have gone wrong in policy and implementation strategies and if someone is to examine education in developing countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, there is dearth of Teachers, deplorable infrastructures,lack of learning Teaching resources and the manifestation of this is what we are seeing in the society which some of our graduates are not able to read and this is worrisome.
According to him,no wonder, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided to adopt the theme for this year. “Changing Course, Transforming Education” to change course means to reexamines the way we are managing Education and as managers,we should be able to see in which way we have been doing well and which way we have been lacking behind and to transform is to adopt better strategies and improving on what is available.
The Chairman said the situation in Plateau state is likely to be the same in other states and called to all and sundry to renew commitment for better and quality Education for the betterment and development of the society.
He emurated some achievements of the Present Administration to improve on the standard of Education in Plateau state.
The Model Primary school in Shendam,Bunga Primary School in Mangu has been constructed and furnished,others are the ongoing Lalong’s legacy projects in all the seventeen local Governments.
The Board has not been resting on her oars to promote the welfare of teachers and pupils.
