Iyara in Ijumu LGA of Kogi West on Saturday received unusual visitors as students Union leaders across Kogi West were hosted for the second time by the Senator representing the senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi as he distributed bursary award forms to seven hundred (700) students of higher institutions of learning in Nigeria.

The event which was scheduled for four pm had students leaders from all the seven LGAs of the senatorial zone present and in an uncontrollable exciting mood as they received the forms for onward distribution for their beneficiaries who were carefully selected across the zone.

Speaking while addressing the students, Senator Smart Adeyemi says the gesture is the second of its kind and would continue as a yearly event, he says the idea was born in order to offer cash support to students in higher institutions, especially at this time of economic situation in order to support them to cope with their studies. Senator Adeyemi says the project will run two times in 2021 so as to be about to capture very many students into the scheme, he enjoined the students to apply the most use of the fund in such a manner that will have direct impact in their studies so as to come out with excellent results.

The Senator during his speech also stated that he is committed to a students and education friendly representation, he said that is the reason why he is pursuing the Federal University of Agriculture, Kabba establishment Bill in the national assembly, saying that he will assiduously strife to ensure the bill succeeds in the life of the current administration, he encouraged the students to face their studies and charge them not to allow politicians use them for parochial and dirty politics as their future is brighter and better than the current gain.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Ebun Joel, Chairperson of the Senator Smart Adeyemi Bursary award Committee enjoined the students to carry out the distribution of the forms in manners that represent fairness and sincerity, she informed the students that the committee is out to do a neat job, hence would disqualify any applicant whose form does not obey to guidelines for the bursary award. She thanked Senator Adeyemi for his commitment to the educational development of his people and encouraged other politicians to emulate the kind gesture.

In the same vein, Secretary of the Committee and Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Political Matters, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi says the exercise is indeed a commendable effort from a man whose representation is indeed a blessing to the people of Kogi West, Omoluabi says Senator Smart Adeyemi would be remembered for being a huge supporter if education and all around development, he thanked the Senator for a sound representation so far in the national assembly, he says the occasion would go down in history as one that impacts children of the poor in their pursuit for education. Omoluabi charges the students to be of great conduct and justify the huge investment of the Senator by coming out excellently in their academics.

Students leaders, one after the other spoke and paid glowing accolades to the Senator for putting smiles on their faces, they assured him of their prayers, support and solidarity at all times.

The high point of the event was the presentation of the bursary award forms to students leaders of each LGA for onward distribution to the beneficiaries, the Senator also received in audience the newly elected national President of National Association of Okun Students Mr Babarinde and his newly elected executives.
