Leke Abejide Foundation Releases ₦100m Interest-Free Loan for Women Cooperatives in Lokoja, Koto Karfe
The Leke Abejide Foundation Credit Union Cooperative has engaged executives of Lokoja and Koto Karfe Local Government Areas to sensitize them on its new interest-free loan scheme for women.
In a press release, the cooperative said the Foundation has released ₦100 million as interest-free loans for selected women cooperative societies in Lokoja and Koto Karfe LGAs.
The initiative targets grassroots empowerment, business growth, and poverty reduction.
According to the Foundation, the engagement with Lokoja/Koto Karfe excos was to explain the purpose of the loan scheme and ensure proper coordination at the local level.
The Founder of the Leke Abejide Foundation, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, member representing Yagba Federal Constituency, said the aim is to “eradicate poverty in our society.”
He reiterated his popular view: “Empowering a woman is like empowering a nation.”
The Foundation noted that the program is an extension of ongoing efforts across Kogi West. Women cooperatives in Yagba Federal Constituency, Kabba/Bunu, and Ijumu Federal Constituency are already benefiting from the same gesture. Lokoja and Koto Karfe are the latest beneficiaries.
“Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide derives joy in making others happy,” the statement added.
Local leaders and women cooperative leaders present at the meeting welcomed the intervention, saying access to interest-free capital will help traders, farmers, and small business owners expand operations without the burden of debt.
