Nigerians Urged to Utilize Old Student Association Platform to Revamp Education
The National President of Government Secondary School Afon Old Student Association, Alhaji Abdurrazaq Yaqoob Mobolaji, has emphasized the crucial role of education in sustainable development. He encouraged Nigerians to leverage the Old Student Association Platform to enhance the country’s educational standards, alleviate poverty, economic downturn, and underdevelopment.
According to Mobolaji, who was ably represented by the Vice President, Professor Abdulsalam Abiodun Salman, at the inauguration meeting of the “mobilisation committee for increase in membership of the association” which was administered by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Mumini Adebimpe Jimoh, in his office along Oke-Erin road, off Taiwo Road, Ilorin, pointed out that education is a potent antidote to poverty and economic instability.
He emphasized that, providing quality education is a daunting task for the government alone, necessitating the involvement of old students in giving back to their alma maters.
The National President also solicited commitment of members to the numerous activities of the association’s vision and mission, as well as encouraging assisting each other where necessary.
A 29-member Mobilization Committee was inaugurated to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Government Secondary School Afon coming up next year, 2026.
The committee chairman, Alhaji Taiwo Abdullahi, in his response,pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them by bringing both active and inactive old students on board, in order to spread representation of membership across all the sets for inclusivity and enhance sense of belonging among all members.
The committee’s terms of reference include tracking members in diaspora, creating a database, and ensuring participation in the forthcoming anniversary celebration, among others.
Notable members of the committee include Prof Abdul Rauf Ambali, Prof Oluwole Akinola, and Prof John Oladosu, Olajide Abolarin Tony United Kingdom, Usman Abubakar (Fodio), United States of America and Fatai Kalawole, also of the United Kingdom.
