The Gubernatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has raised the alarm over the alleged formation of an unauthorized 20-man armed group operating across Ezza North and Ezza South Local Government Areas.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the spokesman to the candidate, Chief Emmanuel Igwe, he noted that the PDP leadership, supporters and leaders loyal to Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii may be the primary targets of these planned acts of hostility.
According to the spokesman: “our attention has been drawn to disturbing reports detailing the alleged formation of an unauthorized 20-man armed group operating across Ezza North and Ezza South Local Government Areas”.
“Credible information reaching our campaign organization suggests that this group, allegedly created by certain stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi Central, has reportedly been tasked with carrying out targeted political violence, arson, and intimidation against opposition figures in Ezza nation’.
”Of grave concern to our principal and the PDP leadership is the strong likelihood that supporters and leaders loyal to Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii may be the primary targets of these planned acts of hostility”.
Odii added further alleged that the armed group, which reportedly brands itself as an “Anti-Cult Task Force,” was said to be scheming to operate under the official cover of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the State Police Command to legitimize its acts of political terror.
”Alleged Directives of Violence: It is alleged that the group has received directives to launch attacks and burn down the private residences and properties of prominent opposition stakeholders across Ezza land”, Odii said.
The PDP governorship candidate also called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), and the leadership of all national security agencies to immediately investigate these grave allegations, dismantle any unauthorized armed groups in Ezza land, and ensure that no operative or political actor uses official security structures to intimidate law-abiding citizens.
Odii noted that the PDP and his AnyiChuks Campaign Organization remained fully committed to peace, democratic norms, and the rule of law.
He also urged their supporters across Ezza North, Ezza South, and the entire Ebonyi State to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding as statutory security authorities look into this alarming development.
