2027 KABBA/BUNU/IJUMU HOUSE OF REPS RACE: DEMOCRACY THRIVES ON PARTICIPATION, NOT POLITICAL INTIMIDATION

We have taken note of a recent opinion piece titled “2027 Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu House of Reps Race: Here Comes Another Season of the Political Jaywalkers” circulating on digital and social platforms. While we uphold the right to free speech, we feel compelled to respond to the tone of hostility, mockery of ambition, and ungrateful undertones expressed in the piece.

The article’s sarcasm and veiled attacks aim to undermine legitimate political aspirations and promote a narrow, exclusionary vision of democracy, which is fundamentally flawed and contrary to our Constitution’s spirit.

Here are key points to consider:

1. *Democracy is a Right, Not a Privilege*: Every citizen has the constitutional right to aspire to public office, provided they meet legal requirements. Elections are about choice, and the electorate decides who serves.

2. *Gratitude Must Be Honored, Not Exploited*: It’s troubling that individuals who benefited from the Divine Mandate platform now ridicule the ideals that supported them. Basic human decency requires respect for past support.

3. *Performance is for the People to Evaluate*: The argument that an incumbent shouldn’t be challenged due to supposed “performance” is presumptive and undemocratic. The people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu will assess whether promises were fulfilled.

4. *Aspiration is Not a Crime*: Labeling political ambition as “political harakiri” aims to intimidate and discourage participation. Ambition driven by purpose and service is necessary for democratic growth.

5. *Respect for Faith and Belief Systems*: Dismissive remarks about “divine mandate” and spiritual inspiration are deeply disrespectful and undermine democracy’s pluralism.

Our Stand: Let the People Decide

The Divine Mandate platform champions inclusive leadership, responsible representation, and democratic participation. We call on all political actors to commit to civility, fairness, and truth. Elections are about giving people a choice, not gatekeeping. Let’s preserve the dignity of our politics and the integrity of our constituency.

Signed,

Media & Public Affairs Directorate
