2027 PDP Kogi West Candidate, Rt Hon TJ Yusuf Slams Govt Over Kidnappings: ‘We Can No Longer Sleep With Our Eyes Closed’
The 2027 PDP candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District, Rt Hon TJ Yusuf, has called for “genuine and decisive action” from government to curb the rising cases of kidnappings across Kogi State, particularly in Bunu land.
In a statement released Monday, Yusuf said the spate of abductions had become “sad and unacceptable,” and accused authorities of relying on press statements instead of delivering results on the ground.
“The rising cases of kidnappings across Kogi State, especially in Bunu land, call for genuine and decisive action. The government must, as a matter of urgency, show real concern for people’s lives,” he stated.
He lamented that communities live in fear, arguing that rhetoric without action has failed the people. “It is sad and unacceptable that all we continue to hear are press statements without concrete results. What is needed now is coordinated and visible action,” the former lawmaker said.
Yusuf stressed that citizens’ safety can no longer be taken for granted. “We can no longer sleep with our eyes closed—this situation is unacceptable. The government must act now,” he declared.
The statement comes hours after Senator Sunday Karimi mourned a kidnapping incident in Ayegunle Bunu, Kabba-Bunu LGA, that left victims abducted and lives lost in the early hours of June 1, 2026.
Yusuf’s remarks add to growing pressure on Kogi State authorities and security agencies to scale up intelligence-led operations and rescue efforts as attacks persist in Kogi West communities.
