A Call to Nigerian Youths: Embrace Prudence, Experience, and Integrity in Leadership
The recent mass protest organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in response to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has once again underscored the urgent need for Nigerian youths to exercise discernment and responsibility in political participation.
While peaceful protest remains a legitimate pillar of democratic expression, it must be anchored on sincerity, lawful conduct, and leadership that reflects accountability and respect for due process. Regrettably, the conduct and posture of the ADC leadership continue to raise concerns, as their actions suggest inconsistencies that undermine both internal party discipline and broader democratic standards.
It is important for young Nigerians to recognize the implications of aligning with individuals whose track records do not reflect stability, responsibility, or commitment to national development. Political actors such as Dino Melaye and others have remained associated with controversies that distract from the serious business of governance and nation-building. The energy and passion of our youth must therefore be directed toward credible leadership and constructive political engagement.
Nigeria’s youths remain the cornerstone of our democratic future. Their aspirations must be guided by leaders who embody prudence, competence, and a verifiable record of service. Citizens are encouraged to prioritize issue-based politics, demand accountability, and actively support initiatives that promote unity, stability, and sustainable development.
Let this serve as a timely reminder that genuine leadership is defined not by noise or spectacle, but by integrity, results, and an unwavering commitment to the collective good of the nation.
It is also important for Nigerians not to lose sight of history. Many of the same individuals championing such actions today played prominent roles in protests during the era of Goodluck Jonathan, events which contributed to outcomes that set Nigeria back in significant ways. It is therefore concerning to see a repeat of similar patterns, driven by the same political actors.
If these leaders were truly committed to the welfare of Nigerians, their energy would be directed toward addressing pressing national challenges such as economic hardship and insecurity, rather than attempting to exert undue pressure on institutions like INEC or mobilizing uninformed youths under questionable pretenses. Nigerian youths must, therefore, rise above manipulation, disassociate from such recurring influences, and align themselves with credible leaders and genuine nation-building efforts.
