A New Dawn in the Nigeria-Uganda Bilateral Relations..…..
A new dawn in the Nigeria-Uganda bilateral relations in the area of trade was consummated today in Kampala, Uganda, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] between the National Mushroom Growers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria [NAM-GP-MAN] and the SACI Mushroom Producers Association of Uganda.

The MoU signed at the Nigeria High Commission in Kampala under the supervision of the Head of Mission, Amb. John Shama Shaga provides the framework for which the Parties would collaborate in the areas of research, technology transfer, training, and access to markets for mushroom products, thereby opening new vistas of opportunities for small and medium enterprises to participate in cross-border trade.
The Nigerian Head of Mission described the event as a meaningful step forward in the ongoing efforts to foster closer bilateral ties and enhance economic cooperation between Nigeria and Uganda. He averred that the agricultural sector remains a cornerstone of development across the African continent, and the partnership underscores the shared dedication to unlocking the immense potential within the agribusiness value chain.
He further stated that mushroom cultivation, in particular, embodied a promising avenue for innovation, nutritional enhancement, income generation, and employment opportunities, especially for women and youth.
He concluded by affirming the support of the Nigerian High Commission to the initiative, which aligns with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area [AfFCFTA].
In his remarks, the President of the NAM-GP-MAN, Chief Michael Awunor, described the occasion as momentous in the development of a working relationship with its Ugandan counterpart.
Speaking, the President of SACI Mushroom Producers Association of Uganda, Mrs. Najuuko Racheal described the occasion as an opportunity for the two bodies to learn from each other and create market opportunities for women and youth of Uganda and Nigeria, and even within the larger continent.
She expressed appreciation to the Nigerian High Commission and took the opportunity to invite Amb.Shaga to the Association’s Exhibition holding in Kampala between 27th to 30th November 2025.
Present from Nigeria to witness the occasion was Mr. Rufai Kasim, who represented the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Chief Tai Hassan Ejibunu, the Chairman/ CEO of The Hawaz Group.
