ABNU Unveils Maiden Magazine “The University Exchequer” Brainstorm On Alternative Funding For Nigeria’s Universities.

The Association of Bursars of Nigerian Universities ABNU , has Unveiled the Association’s maiden magazine, ” The University Exchequer” a publication that Spotlights the activities of Universities Bursers in Nigeria’s Universities.
The unveiling Ceremony, held at the Nigerian Universities Commission, Maitama Abuja,Wednesday, May 21st,2025, themed, ” Funding Models of Nigerian Universities: Towards a Paradigm Shifts” , attracted the presence of dignitaries from the Education Sector and other Government Agencies.
In her opening remarks, the Chairman of the Association, Dr.Mrs. Hadiza Goje Commend Members for their Commitments towards ensuring the actualization of the Association’s aims and Objectives, adding that as Custodian of trust , transparency, accountability and the pursuit of Professionalism should always be their watch-word.
Other issue that formed parts of discussions at the event was on how Bursers in there various Universities Could seek alternative funding for their respective University, considering the fact that most universities in Nigeria currently were grossly Underfunded, a development which normally put pressure on Bursers of Universities.
Reflecting on the theme of the Unveiling Ceremony, Funding Models For Nigeria Universities: Towards a Paradigm Shifts, His Excellency, Monday Onyema , Fca the Deputy Governor of Delta State, urged the Members of the University to acknowledge the fact that the Current model of funding Universities in Nigeria was no longer Sustainable, and that Bursers in there University Should Champion the Shift from the old order by figuring out alternative Source of founding.
He admonished that a University could establish it own business that would serve as a Source of revenue generation internally.
” A University Could establish a farm in a Commercial Scale, like poultry and Crop Production”
He said, Alumni Associations of Universities Could also be another Source of funding if properly organized, saying that the Current Challenges of underfunding faced by virtually all Federal and States Universities Should Propelled Alumni for more impactful intervention in their Universities.
The high points of the Ceremony was the Presentation of Awards to Some individuals who had Contributed to the Progress of the Association of Bursers of Nigerian Universities.
