Akpabio-Natasha Saga: PDP Kogi Women Leader Rally Behind Senator Natasha Uduaghan
Statement by the Kogi State PDP women’s leader in
Support of our Distinguished Senator Natasha Uduaghan.
We the Kogi State PDP Women and the collective women of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, stand in unwavering solidarity with Distinguished Senator Natasha Uduaghan amidst the recent troubling developments in the Nigerian Senate. We are deeply concerned by the ongoing harassment and disrespectful conduct exhibited by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, towards Senator Uduaghan and other female senators. This behavior is not only unbecoming of a leader of his stature but also undermines the principles of equality, respect, and dignity that should guide our legislative chambers.
Senator Natasha Uduaghan has consistently demonstrated integrity, dedication, and a commitment to the welfare of her constituents and the nation at large. It is therefore disheartening to witness her being subjected to unwarranted harassment and a condescending attitude from the Senate President. Such actions are a blatant disregard for the rights and contributions of women in governance and public service, and they perpetuate a culture of gender-based discrimination that must be condemned in the strongest terms.
The recent events in the Senate have further exposed a pattern of behavior by the Senate President that he is incompatible of the values of leadership, inclusivity, and respect for his colleagues. His continued harassment of female senators and his dismissive attitude towards his colleagues are unacceptable and undermine the integrity of the Senate as an institution. Leadership demands humility, fairness, and the ability to foster unity, not division or intimidation.
In light of these developments, we hereby call on the Senate President Godswill Akpabio to step aside from his position as Senate President. His conduct has eroded the trust and confidence of the Nigerian people in his ability to lead the Senate with the required decorum and respect for all members, regardless of gender. We urge the Senate to prioritize the restoration of its dignity and to ensure that all members, especially women, are treated with the respect and fairness they deserve.
We also call on all well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organizations, and advocates for gender equality to join us in condemning this unacceptable behavior and to demand accountability from our leaders. The Nigerian Senate must be a place where all voices are heard and respected, and where women can serve without fear of harassment or discrimination.
Finally, we reaffirm our support for Distinguished Senator Natasha Uduaghan and commend her courage and resilience in the face of these challenges. We stand with her and all women in leadership positions who continue to break barriers and contribute to the development of our nation. Together, we will continue to advocate for a Nigeria where equality, respect, and justice prevail.

Kogi State PDP Womens Leader
