Receiving Governor Seyi Makinde at his office, Dr. Alake reiterated the ministry’s support for states to develop the mining industry value chain and promote value addition for maximum beneficiation to host communities.

Governor Makinde, who was at the ministry to follow up on the state’s application for mining licenses, revealed that Oyo State is on the verge of establishing a state-owned mining corporation.

He briefed the minister on efforts to curb illegal mining, including the recent demolition of an unlawful lithium processing facility.

The governor disclosed that the state has applied for mining licenses to invest in the value chain of Lithium, gemstone, gold, and marble, and has secured partnerships with investors.

“We are creating an enabling environment to facilitate not only extraction of minerals but also value addition through processing of raw materials,” he said.

Dr. Alake commended Governor Makinde’s efforts to develop the mining sector in Oyo State, pledging the ministry’s support for the state’s initiatives.

The minister’s endorsement is a significant boost to Oyo State’s quest to harness its mineral resources for economic development.
