AMB. WAIYA HAILS AL-MASAREEF FOUNDATION’S ADVOCACY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE
The Executive Director, Citizens for Development and Education,(CDE) and Head of Secretariat, Kano peace Committee, (KPC) Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, has Commended the Al Masareef foundation for her Consistent advocacy and fight against drug abuse amongst the youth and other addict in Nigeria.
Amb. Waiya gave the Commendation at a Symposium Organized by Al Masareef foundation in Collaborations with the National Drug law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) with the theme, ” Rise Above , United for a Drug -free live”, held at the Cyprian Ekwesi Center for Art and Culture, Area 10, Garki Abuja, Tuesday November 26th, 2024, an event that attracted attendees from all walks of life, Public and private organizations as well.
The heads of the Kano peace Committee said the Symposium was apt and timely, also lauded the foundation for targeting the teenage boys and girls and the youth generally , adding that the rising tide of drug addiction amongst the youth if not arrested at the early stage, would spell doom fo the future of the Country, he further described the efforts and actions of the Al Masareef foundation as frantic and proactive towards enthroning a drug free society.
Amb. Ibrahim Waiya further prevailed on guardian Particularly, parents to always monitor the activities of their Children, know the kind of friends they keep to avoid been influenced, saying if parents could adequately monitor their Children,the likelihood or tendencies of them becoming drug addicts would be minimal, he asserted.
According to Amb. Ibrahim Waiya, there are Conflicting explanations adduced as reasons for drug addiction amongst Children, some opined that Children from poor background are likely to become drug addicts due to frustration arising from inability of their parents to meet up there basic needs,
Continuing, Amb. Waiya said ironically, there are Children whose parents are wealthy and influential but turned to become drug addicts, at times Children from well to do background tends to abuse such opportunity by becoming extravagant and get influenced easily in to drug related issues, he submitted.
He stressed that sometimes broken homes and family to a large extent could lead children into drugs, “a situation where parents are not living together, Children don’t have anyone to guide them, poor upbringing,all these could influence the drug habit of a Child “, Amb. Ibrahim Waiya noted.
Amb. Waiya further emphasized that the family has a primary and fundamental role to play in the lives of a Child.
