Aminu Dabo: The APC Consensus Builder Bringing Grassroots Support to Kano.

By Bala Salihu Dawakin Kudu Democracy Newsline August 24, 2026.

Arc. Aminu Dabo, a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and former Commissioner for Lands and Survey in Kano State, has continued to attract attention for his long-standing contributions to youth empowerment, political mobilisation and community development.
Popularly associated with the phrase “Dabo Alheri Ne”—meaning “Dabo is a source of goodwill”—his supporters describe him as a political leader whose interventions have touched the lives of young people, women, students and other vulnerable members of society.

During his tenure as head of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dabo was credited by his supporters with supporting employment opportunities and creating avenues through which young people could improve their livelihoods. He also maintained relationships with politicians, community leaders and members of the wider public.

His record of intervention, according to his supporters, also extends to his time as Kano State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, where he was involved in initiatives aimed at helping young people and low-income residents gain access to land. For many beneficiaries, access to land represented an opportunity to build homes, establish businesses and create a more secure future for their families.

Education has also remained an important part of the support attributed to the former commissioner. Dabo has assisted students with educational expenses, including students attending higher institutions and universities both within Nigeria and abroad. Such interventions, supporters say, have helped students overcome financial difficulties that could otherwise have interrupted their studies.

Women, particularly widows and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, have equally benefited from empowerment initiatives associated with him. Through the provision of capital and other forms of assistance, beneficiaries have been encouraged to establish small businesses and become more economically independent.

At the grassroots level, Dabo has also been associated with development initiatives in Dambatta Local Government Area. His supporters point to community-oriented projects and interventions as part of his broader effort to contribute to local development and improve the welfare of residents.

Youth empowerment has remained another major area of focus. Some young people have received vehicles and motorcycles to enable them to participate in transportation-related businesses and generate sustainable incomes. The initiative, according to his supporters, reflects an approach that seeks not only to provide immediate assistance but also to give beneficiaries the means to become self-reliant.

Beyond philanthropy and community interventions, Arc. Aminu Dabo has also continued to play a role in political engagement in Kano State. He has expressed support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the political leadership of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while urging citizens and young people to support policies and programmes aimed at economic development and improved living standards.
Dabo has particularly called for greater unity among young people and other stakeholders in Kano and across Nigeria, arguing that cooperation and constructive political participation are essential to achieving sustainable development.

He has also commended Kano youths for their involvement in political activities and encouraged them to remain engaged in the democratic process. His message to supporters is centred on continuity, unity and support for development-oriented policies, including the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
For his supporters, therefore, Arc. Aminu Dabo represents more than a political figure. They see him as a grassroots mobiliser, philanthropist and advocate of youth and community empowerment whose activities have extended across education, women’s empowerment, transportation, land access and local development.

As political activities continue to evolve in Kano, Dabo’s influence among sections of the state’s youth and political stakeholders is expected to remain an important factor in conversations about the future direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and broader political alliances in the state.
“Dabo Alheri Ne” remains the phrase his supporters use to summarise his public image: a leader they believe has consistently sought to turn political influence and public service into tangible opportunities for ordinary people.
