APC Deputy National Spokesperson Condemns Calls for Military Takeover

Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Durosinmi Meseko has dismissed calls by some Nigerians for military takeover, urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in the face of current economic challenges.

He made this admonition while receiving an Award of Honour as the “Politician of the Year 2024″ at the 14th Democracy Newsline Newspaper Awards held at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

Meseko likened the present situation to a woman in labor, emphasizing that the pain will eventually subside once the desired outcome is achieved. He assured the public of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment and ability to steer the nation towards prosperity.

“We understand the difficulties Nigerians are facing, but we must remain patient and trust in the leadership of President Tinubu,” Meseko stated. “Just like a woman in labor endures pain to bring forth a new life, we are confident that the current challenges will pave the way for a brighter future.”

He further condemned calls for a military intervention, emphasizing the importance of democratic principles and the rule of law. “We must resist any attempt to undermine our hard-earned democracy,” Meseko reiterated. “The path to progress lies in unity, perseverance, and faith in our elected leaders.” He asserted that “the worst democratic government is better than the most benevolent military dictatorship”
He added that while democracy may be imperfect, it offers a framework for progress, accountability, and the pursuit of a more just and equitable society.

Meseko’s statement comes amidst growing public discontent over the rising cost of living and other economic hardships. He however, remains optimistic about the government’s ability to address these challenges and deliver on its promises.
