APC NIGER PRIMARIES: 80% Consensus Success Reflects Party Unity and Confidence in Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s Leadership

The outcome of the All Progressives Congress primary elections in Niger State has once again demonstrated the unity, stability, and political maturity of the party under the purposeful leadership of Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago.

The governorship ticket emerged through affirmation of consensus, reflecting the overwhelming confidence and trust reposed in the Governor’s leadership and developmental vision by party stakeholders and members across the state.

A breakdown of the primary election results further highlights the level of harmony within the party:

* Contested: 1 (Zone A)

■ House of Representatives Seats: 10

* Consensus: 6
Agwara/Borgu, Bida/Gbako/Katcha, Bosso/Paikoro, Kontagora/Mariga/Mashegu/Wushishi, Lavun/Mokwa/Edati, Magama/Rijau

* Contested: 4
Lapai/Agaie, Munya/Rafi/Shiroro, Suleja/Tafa, Chanchaga

■ State House of Assembly Seats: 27

* Consensus: 24
Agaie, Borgu, Chanchaga, Edati, Gbako, Gurara, Katcha, Lapai, Lavun, Mariga, Magama, Mashegu, Mokwa, Paikoro, Rafi, Rijau, Shiroro, Wushishi, Agwara, Kontagora I & II, Bida I & II

Bosso, Suleja, Tafa

Out of the 41 positions featured in the primaries, 33 emerged through consensus, representing approximately 80% consensus success, while only 8 positions, representing about 20%, were contested.

While some postions, including governorship ticket, emerged unopposed, the high level of consensus achieved reflects Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s belief in promoting ambition through dialogue, inclusion, and collective decision-making. Over the past few days, the Governor has engaged tirelessly with stakeholders and aspirants across various constituencies to ensure peaceful resolutions and present a united front.

Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has also assured aspirants and party faithful of inclusive governance that provides opportunities for everyone committed to serving the people.

The outcome further reflects the strong unity, cooperation, and confidence within the APC in Niger State, while highlighting the Governor’s inclusive leadership style. Party leaders, stakeholders, delegates, aspirants, and members are commended for their peaceful and responsible conduct throughout the exercise.

The successful primaries have undoubtedly strengthened the APC’s position as a united and formidable force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
