APC Unites Behind Omirin as Ijesa South Consensus Candidate for 11th Assembly
The All Progressives Congress in Ijesa South Federal Constituency has adopted serving lawmaker Olusanya Omirin as its consensus candidate to represent Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ilesa East and Ilesa West in the 11th Assembly, following a party congress marked by celebrations and a show of unity among party leaders and members.
Omirin’s emergence was officially announced during the APC congress held in Ilesa on Saturday, where party faithful gathered in large numbers to endorse his candidacy amid singing, dancing and open declarations of support.
The event also witnessed a significant moment of reconciliation and unity as Hon. Lawrence Babatunde Ayeni, Omirin’s major challenger and former member of the House of Representatives, publicly aligned with the party’s decision and pledged his support for the candidate.
Speaking shortly after his adoption, Omirin described his emergence as a reflection of the confidence reposed in him by party leaders and members across the constituency.
“I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming show of love and confidence from our party leaders and members across the constituency,” he said.
The lawmaker expressed appreciation to former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, alongside other APC stakeholders for their role in ensuring party unity ahead of the election.
“I want to sincerely thank our leader, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, and all our respected party leaders for their support, guidance and belief in my capacity to serve our people,” Omirin stated.
He pledged to intensify efforts toward the development of the constituency if elected into the 11th Assembly, assuring constituents that their interests would remain his priority.
“I remain committed to the growth and development of our constituency. This support will only encourage me to work harder for our people,” he added.
Omirin also used the occasion to rally party members ahead of the election, expressing confidence that the APC would record a landslide victory in the constituency.
“We must brace up for the task ahead and ensure that our constituency delivers one of the biggest victories for the APC. This election is a done deal for our great party if we remain united,” he declared.
In his remarks, Ayeni said he accepted the consensus arrangement in the interest of party unity and progress, stressing that the APC’s victory remained more important than personal ambition.
“I align fully with the decision of the party and I am committed to working for the success and victory of Hon. Omirin,” Ayeni said.
The congress attracted top APC figures and stakeholders from all four local government areas within the constituency.
Among dignitaries present were former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, Executive Director of Procurement at the Federal Housing Authority, Engr. Remi Omowaye, council chairmen and several party leaders.
Party leaders at the gathering described the consensus arrangement as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the APC ahead of the forthcoming election and maintaining political stability within the constituency.
Observers at the congress noted that the peaceful resolution of the contest and the public endorsement by Omirin signaled growing unity within the party structure in Ijesa South ahead of the polls.
