An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on Wednesday in a housing estate under construction in Dalwa, Borno State, claiming the lives of two individuals.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 1 pm, while Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and his Yobe State counterpart, Mai Mala Buni, were commissioning housing projects in Maiduguri.
Dalwa, situated 175 kilometers from the state capital, has historically borne the brunt of Boko Haram insurgency, leading to significant destruction and displacement. The affected estate was part of ongoing efforts to rebuild the area, with the construction of 200 housing units aimed at resettling displaced residents.
The explosion follows a similar incident reported in the area a day earlier, although details about that incident remain scarce. Authorities have launched investigations into both occurrences, with security experts suspecting remnants of insurgent activity in the region.
Efforts are underway to ensure the safety of ongoing reconstruction projects in Dalwa and nearby areas, as residents and workers are urged to remain vigilant.
