Bunu Yam Festival 7/7: Salman Idris Reaffirms Commitment to Agriculture, Economic Growth
The Member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Salman Idris, has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalising agriculture, strengthening rural security, and expanding economic opportunities as the people of Bunu Kingdom celebrated the 2026 7/7 Yam Festival.
In a goodwill message to His Royal Majesty, traditional rulers, community leaders, and Bunu indigenes at home and in the diaspora, Salman described the annual New Yam Festival as a timeless expression of the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, agrarian excellence, and enduring spirit of unity. He noted that the festival remains a reminder that agriculture is the bedrock of the local economy and a critical driver of sustainable development.
The federal lawmaker pledged to champion legislative initiatives and development programmes aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, empowering farmers with modern farming support, promoting agro-processing and value addition, creating employment opportunities for young people, and strengthening food security across the constituency.

Acknowledging the security challenges confronting farming communities, Salman stressed that meaningful agricultural development cannot thrive without peace and safety in rural areas. He called for stronger collaboration among government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and local communities to restore confidence among farmers and unlock the vast agricultural potential of the region.
He also unveiled a vision to transform the annual 7/7 Yam Festival into an internationally recognised cultural and agricultural showcase capable of attracting tourism, investment, and development partnerships, while positioning Bunu Kingdom as a leading destination for cultural heritage and agribusiness. He urged the people to remain united in preserving their cherished traditions and to embrace agriculture as a modern enterprise capable of driving economic growth, wealth creation, and lasting prosperity.
