*Says recognition affirms Governor’s ethical conduct, commitment to Christian values and service to humanity
The Director-General of the political pressure group, Sheriff Oborevwori: The Hope Of The Common Man, Mr. Edewor Okiemute Godspower, has congratulated the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on his conferment with the prestigious Christian Icon Award by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The award was presented to Governor Oborevwori on Saturday during the 50th anniversary celebration of CAN at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, ethical conduct, commitment to public service and unwavering adherence to Christian values.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the award ceremony, Mr. Edewor described the honour as well-deserved and a clear testament to the Governor’s impactful governance and godly disposition in the discharge of his responsibilities.
According to him, the award conferred on the Governor by the apex Christian body in Nigeria is not only a personal honour to Rt. Hon. Oborevwori but a collective pride to Deltans, as it affirms that the good works being done by the administration are being recognized beyond the borders of Delta State.
“The Christian Icon Award bestowed on His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, by CAN at its golden jubilee is most deserving. It is a confirmation that his good works are seen and appreciated by all and sundry,” Edewor said.
He noted that since assumption of office, Governor Oborevwori has distinguished himself as a leader with a deep sense of humility, integrity and fear of God, anchoring his MORE Agenda on equity, justice, inclusiveness and people-oriented development.
Edewor stated that the Governor’s style of leadership, marked by transparency, compassion for the common man, respect for the rule of law and promotion of peace and unity across ethnic and religious divides, aligns perfectly with the Christian virtues that CAN stands for.
He stressed that Oborevwori’s commitment to ethical conduct, his open identification with Christian values in both public and private life, and his support for the Church and other faith-based institutions in the state made him eminently qualified for the award.
The DG further observed that under Oborevwori, Delta State has witnessed sustained peace, massive infrastructural renewal, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, empowerment of youths and women, and renewed hope for the ordinary Deltan, which has endeared him to the people as truly the Hope of the Common Man.
“Governor Oborevwori has shown that leadership is service and that power is meaningful only when it is used to uplift the downtrodden. His administration has given practical meaning to equity and fairness and has continued to inspire confidence in governance,” he added.
Mr. Edewor said the award coming during CAN’s 50th anniversary celebration adds historical significance, as it places Governor Oborevwori among a select group of Nigerian leaders whose public service reflects genuine Christian witness.
He called on Deltans, particularly members of the Sheriff Oborevwori: The Hope Of The Common Man movement across the state, to continue to support the administration and pray for the Governor for greater wisdom and strength to do more for the people.
He concluded that the Christian Icon Award will spur the Governor to greater service to God and humanity and will remain a landmark recognition of a leader whose life and administration continue to “radiate hope for the common man”.
