Celebrating Erudite Professor David Igho Efevwerhan on his birthday

Today, on behalf of the Old Students of Saint Vincent College Okwagbe l join the academic and legal community, family, friends, mentees, and admirers from across the nation and beyond to celebrate an intellectual titan and a distinguished legal scholar, Professor David Igho Efevwerhan, a man whose name resonates with excellence in legal education, unblemished integrity, and patriotic service to Nigeria.

Born in the heart of Delta State, Professor Efevwerhan’s early years were marked by academic brilliance and a calm, focused demeanor. I recall, with deep fondness, our days in secondary school. He was a year or two ahead of my set of 1978 – 1983 , and even then, he stood out—disciplined, articulate, and intellectually gifted. His leadership qualities were unmistakable, and he carried himself with the quiet confidence of a man destined for greatness.

Over the years, Prof. Efevwerhan has lived up to every ounce of that promise. A seasoned legal mind, he has made indelible marks in legal academia, and he currently serves as a Lecturer at the prestigious Nigerian Law School, where he has mentored and helped shape thousands of budding legal practitioners. His influence spans multiple generations of Nigerian lawyers who often speak of him in glowing terms—for his encyclopedic knowledge of law, his clarity of thought, and his unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

Prof. Efevwerhan is perhaps best known for his widely referenced legal textbooks, particularly in the areas of Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, and Environmental Law. These works are not just scholarly; they are accessible, practical, and have become staples in university and law school curricula across Nigeria. His ability to distill complex legal concepts into understandable language has endeared him to students and professionals alike.

Beyond the classroom, Professor Efevwerhan has contributed immensely to national discourse on law reform, good governance, and public policy. He is a legal realist and patriot who believes that law should serve the people and not be cloaked in unnecessary elitism. His calm, persuasive voice has graced legal conferences, seminars, and high-level discussions, always advocating for a better, more just Nigeria.

As a mentor, Prof. Efevwerhan is both approachable and inspirational. His students speak of him as a man who leads by example—humble, diligent, and always ready to offer guidance. He combines academic rigour with fatherly wisdom, making him one of the most respected figures in Nigeria’s legal education space.

Today, as he celebrates another year of life, l wish him Happy Birthday— thank and appreciate him. I thank him for dedicating his life to knowledge, to justice, to youth development, and to national progress. I thank him for raising the bar for what it means to be a true academic and a patriot.

Professor David Igho Efevwerhan is not just a name. He is a symbol of excellence, integrity, and intellectual leadership. On this special day, may his wisdom continue to illuminate the path for many, and may his years be long, healthy, and full of continued impact.

Happy Birthday, Erudite Professor. The nation celebrates you.
