Coalition of Non-Indigenous APC Members Protest Outcome of Bwari/AMAC Primary Election

A coalition of non-indigenous members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Bwari and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Federal Constituency has expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the recently concluded APC primary election, alleging that the process was marred by manipulation and widespread irregularities.
Addressing journalists during a protest at the APC National Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the spokesperson for the group, Dr. John Odekina, condemned the announcement of election results in areas where, according to him, no voting took place. He also accused the party of deliberately excluding Hon. Faustina Ngozi Egbunike, whom he described as the most popular aspirant in the constituency, from participating in the exercise.

Dr. Odekina argued that the exclusion amounted to the disenfranchisement of both the aspirant and a significant segment of APC members in Bwari and AMAC, who, he claimed, constitute about 80 percent of the party’s membership in the federal constituency. He noted that such actions undermine internal democracy within the ruling party.
He further lamented what he described as the growing influence of external forces and opposition party members in the affairs of the APC, accusing them of hijacking the party’s structure and decision-making processes.
“It is sorrowful and disheartening that the APC has allowed external forces to influence the party’s affairs. This amounts to a dangerous surrender of the party structure to outsiders,” he said.
According to him, the coalition opted for a peaceful protest despite its grievances, citing its commitment to the APC and support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dr. Odekina warned that the continued exclusion of non-indigenous members from contesting elections could negatively affect the party’s performance in future elections. He recalled that similar developments had contributed to challenges faced by the party during the 2023 general elections.
The coalition called for a fresh primary election in the Bwari/AMAC Federal Constituency and urged the national leadership of the APC to directly supervise the process to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility.
The group also cautioned that any perceived exclusion of non-indigenous residents from the 2027 electoral process in the constituency could adversely affect the APC’s electoral fortunes and potentially impact President Tinubu’s re-election prospects.
The protesters maintained that inclusiveness, fairness, and equal participation are essential for the unity, growth, and electoral success of the ruling party.
