Former Okene/Ogori-Magongo House of Representatives aspirant, Captain Timi Iyela, has been honoured with the Young Politician of the Year Award at the 15th edition of the Democracy Newsline Newspaper Annual Public Lecture and Awards.
While receiving the award on Tuesday, Captain Iyela expressed deep gratitude to the organisers for finding him worthy of the recognition.
He pledged to remain committed to active political participation as part of his contribution to the growth of his immediate community and Nigeria at large.
He further urged Nigerian youths, particularly those from Okene and Ogori-Magongo, to actively get involved in politics rather than remain passive observers.
“To all fellow youths; if you don’t like the way your country is being governed, get involved in politics so that you can effect the positive change you wish to see. Enough of being a bystander, knowing your future and the future of your children and generations yet unborn is at stake at the mercy of bad governance. Get involved in politics today. Be the positive change you wish to see in our country,” Iyela said.
He stressed that participation remains the only way young people can position themselves to influence decisions that shape the nation’s future.
