The Leader of Northern Caucus in the House of Representatives and member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has presented an urgent motion before the House of Representatives seeking immediate federal approval for the reconstruction of two critical bridges serving communities in Doguwa and Tudun Wada Local Government Areas of Kano State.
The motion specifically calls for the rehabilitation of the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, which has suffered severe structural damage and is reportedly washed away during the rainy season almost every year, causing hardship for residents and disrupting economic activities.
Hon. Doguwa also requested the reconstruction of the Gada Biyu Bridge in Doguwa Local Government Area. The bridge serves as a major access route to the Falgore forest axis and connects several rural communities, making it strategically important for transportation, commerce, and agricultural activities.
Presenting the motion, Hon. Doguwa explained that both bridges were originally constructed during the administration of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, more than five decades ago. Since then, the structures have deteriorated considerably due to age, heavy usage, flooding, and inadequate maintenance.
He noted that the bridges provide essential links between Doguwa and Tudun Wada Local Government Areas and connect surrounding communities to major transport corridors leading to the River Benue and other parts of Nigeria. According to him, the deteriorating condition of the bridges continues to pose serious risks to commuters and has negatively affected farming, livestock movement, trade, education, and other socio-economic activities.
Hon. Doguwa urged the National Assembly and the Federal Government to treat the reconstruction of the bridges as a matter of national importance, stressing that improving road infrastructure in Kano State and neighbouring states would boost agricultural production, facilitate commerce, strengthen regional connectivity, and promote economic development across Northern Nigeria.
According to the spokesman of Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Auwal Ali Sufi Utai, the lawmaker has repeatedly made efforts over the years to secure the rehabilitation of both the Yaryasa and Gada Biyu bridges. He expressed optimism that the urgent motion would pave the way for prompt government intervention to restore the vital infrastructure for the benefit of millions of road users and the communities that depend on the route.
Residents of the affected communities have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the Federal Government will act swiftly to reconstruct the bridges and improve transportation, enhance safety, and stimulate economic growth throughout the area.
