It was gathered that the personalities whose names were undisclosed are currently under police custody.

The source noted that their detention was sequel to an order of a commissioner in the state.

The source said: “the individuals who were mainly very influential persons within Ebonyi corridors of power were arrested for shoddy execution of the jobs awarded to them by Ebonyi State Government in different parts of the State”.

“To be honest, some of the individuals just collected big sums of money as mobilization fees and went home to sleep. Others mobilized to their respective sites and started building shoddy things different from what was stated in the job specifications”.

“Many were doing the jobs at very slow paces. These people are well-connected and close to power and their arrests show that nobody is above the law”, the witness concluded.

However, a close source who spoke on condition of anonymity noted that the arrested contractors were plotting to instigate the suspension or sack of the commissioners over the “seeming humiliation” that their arrest caused them.

Meanwhile, the governor of the State, Mr. Francis Nwifuru, had publicly expressed disappointment with the performances of majority of Ebonyi project contractors.

According to a government source: “this made the governor to order his aides to embark on intensive supervision of the execution of Ebonyi State Government projects in all parts of the State”.

“Revelations from the intensive project supervision exercise were said to be disheartening. This is viewed by both Ebonyi stakeholders and the ordinary masses as a great discouragement to the Governor on his efforts to patronize local content as a means of human capital development and empowerment as stipulated in the governor’s Ebonyi People’s Charter of Needs manifesto”.
