Ebonyi State First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Mary-Maudline Nwifuru Wins Prestigious Award

The wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief (Mrs) Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, has been named the winner of the 2025 Democracy Newsline Newspaper Award as the Most Outstanding First Lady in Healthcare Services in Southeast Nigeria.
In a press statement signed by Chief Olugbemi Femi, Chairman and CEO of the organization, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
According to the award organizers, Chief (Mrs) Nwifuru’s commitment to improving healthcare in Ebonyi State has earned her this recognition.
The First Lady’s initiatives, including the launch of a Cholera Prevention program and the distribution of essential drugs and hospital consumables to combat outbreaks, have been cited as reasons for her win.
Her efforts to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality, as well as her stance against gender-based violence, have also been commended.
The award will be presented to Chief (Mrs) Nwifuru on August 26, 2025, at the 15th Edition of the Democracy Newsline Public Lecture and Award Ceremony.
The event, themed “Promoting Participatory Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria,” will take place at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, with a red carpet ceremony starting at 5 pm, followed by the main event at 6 pm and a dinner program.
