Egbewole greets UNILORIN Muslim community at Eid el- Kabir

KEHINDE AKINPELU ILORIN

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated members of the University of Ilorin Muslim Community and the entire Muslim Ummah on the occasion of this year’s Eid el-Kabir.

In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that it is “a thing of joy that we are witnessing the celebration, which was institutionalised in symbolic remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s act of piety and steadfastness in the worship of Almighty Allah.”

Prof. Egbewole, who described the occasion as one of the most important events in the Muslim calendar, urged members of the UNILORIN Muslim community to celebrate in moderation.

The Vice Chancellor, who is a Member of the Body of Benchers, reminded the Muslims of the historic origin of the festival, which, he said, is rooted in obedience, faithfulness, selflessness and perseverance as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Ismail.

Prof. Egbewole urged the Muslim faithful to imbibe those fascinating virtues, demonstrated by Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail for our nation to witness the much-envisaged rebirth.

The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Vice President (West Africa) of the Association of African Universities (AAU), enjoined well-to-do Muslims to use the occasion to extend hands of fellowship to their less-privileged neighbours in their various communities in particular and the larger society for peace and love to reign.

The renowned legal luminary commended the entire members of the University community for their contributions to the prevailing peace and harmony in the University and for working tirelessly towards making the University the first in Nigeria, one of the best ten in Africa and among the leading 500 in the world.

He said, “With the continuous cooperation of the staff, the University would not only accomplish the dream but it could also surpass it.”

Prof. Egbewole specifically congratulated the Chairman of the UNILORIN Muslim Community, Prof. Mudashiru Olalere Yusuf; the Chief Imam of UNILORIN Central Mosque, Prof. Nasir Abdussalam, and the entire members of the Muslim Community on the occasion as he wished all a very peaceful and remarkable celebration.
