Electricity Market and Regulatory Commission Bill: Engr. Iselewa Oluwaseyi Advocates for Transparency and Accountability in Kogi’s Electricity Market

 

Engr. Iselewa Oluwaseyi, the CEO of MJC Services, made a compelling presentation at the public hearing at the Kogi State House of Assembly today on the Bill “Electricity Market and Regulatory Commission”. With over 13 years of experience in the energy sector, he emphasized the importance of setting up a State Electricity Regulatory Bureau to regulate the agency and ensure transparency to foster competition and sustainability in the electricity market.

During his presentation, Engr. Oluwaseyi made several submissions and recommendations to improve the electricity market:

1. Establish an independent regulatory commission to oversee the electricity market, ensuring transparency and accountability.
2. Implement a consumer-centric approach, prioritizing affordable tariffs, reliable supply, and effective complaint resolution mechanisms.
3. Create an attractive investment climate, encouraging private sector participation and foreign investment in the electricity sector.
4. Set ambitious renewable energy targets, incentivizing the integration of solar, wind, and hydro sources into the grid.
5. Invest in grid modernization, adopting smart grid technologies to enhance efficiency, reliability, and resilience.
6. Develop workforce development programs, ensuring a skilled and competent workforce in the electricity sector.
7. Prioritize safety and security measures, protecting consumers, workers, and infrastructure.
8. Set up a monitoring Team to oversee the activities of major stakeholders in the electricity market.
9. Ensure service delivery to consumers for efficient market and sustainability.
10. Ensure compliance to SRC regulations and sanction any stakeholders not conforming to regulations code.

Engr. Oluwaseyi expressed his gratitude to the Honorable Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar, Commissioner for Finance Ashiru Ashiwaju, and Hon. Abu Jibril, Member representing Ajaokuta Constituency, for inviting him and his team to the public hearing to make their contribution on the Bill.

His recommendations aim to bring about positive changes in the electricity sector, promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainability for the benefit of all stakeholders.
