Ethnic Tolerance; Ereyitomi Bags Traditional “Madugu” Title For His Generosity To Hausas In Delta
Hausa communities across the three (3) Warri Local Government areas, Delta state, have conferred the highest traditional title of “Madugu”, on Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, a lawmaker representing Warri North/Warri South/Warri South West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for his supports to their wellbeing.
The title conferment performed during Annual Arewa Day Warri Celebration held along NPA Expressway in Warri South Council area, yesterday, was witnessed by dignitaries from all walks of life, as well as both the state and national Executives of Arewa and Muslim groups from the northern part of the country.
Speaking at the occasion, the Delta state Chairman, Arewa Community, Alhaji Danjuma Mohammed, noted that the choice of Hon Thomas Ereyitomi, was made after a careful appraisal of his immense contributions to both the collective and individual wellbeing of Hausa indigenes within his constituency.
He stated that that even at a short notice when some of their people were recently displaced from an area due to the ongoing road construction projects by the state government, Hon. Ereyitomi, played a significant role in ensuring their speedy settlement in another location by providing them with the needed financial support.
Mohammed also recalled how Hon. Ereyitomi, came to the rescue of some Hausa residents in the state during a recent flood disaster by donating relief materials, especially food items, worth millions of naira to the displaced individuals, as a way of reducing the impact of the burden on them at that critical period.
“We cannot continued to count the good gestures that had been extended to Hausa communities in the three (3) Warri Council areas by Hon Thomas Ereyitomi, and it was based on his relentless efforts in supporting us wherever the need arises that singled him out for this rare honour we are bestowing on him today”, he stated.
Responding after his ceremonial decoration and handling over of his sword as well as the traditional horse riding at the venue, Hon. Ereyitomi, thanked God for making it possible for him to be in a position to offer help to the people that genuinely needed his assistance within his constituency and outside.
He thanked both the national and state executives of the Arewa and Muslim groups for finding him worthy of such an honour considered to be one of the highest in Hausa land and assured them of his continued support to their needs from time to time.
According to to him; “Since you have come to appreciate my little contributions to the wellbeing of your people within my constituency in recent times and it has prompted you all to reciprocate with this honour you have conferred on me today, I want to assure you all of my commitment to do more in bringing smiles to faces of your people here”.
“I will be making a donation which I wouldn’t want to announce publicly but will be handed over to one of your representatives standing with me here and he will communicate it to you all later. In addition to letting you know that my office is open at any time my assistance is needed”, he concluded.
