Ex-Federal Lawmaker, Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf Bags Democracy Newsline Newspaper Award on Community Development

The immediate past member of the Federal House of Representatives that represented Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly for three consecutive tenures, Hon. Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf has bagged a prestigious award from the Democracy Newsline Newspaper on Community Development.

The well-attended public lecture and award presentation which was held on 9th October 2024 at the Banquet Hall of the Merit House Maitama, Abuja was a celebration of the fourteen (14) year Anniversary of the media outfit and also in commemoration of the sixty-four (64) years Anniversary of Nigeria’s Political Independence.

Chief Olugbemi Femi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, of Michabifem Ventures Limited, publisher of Democracy Newsline/blog, in his speech, noted that the occasion is an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the talents, achievements and contributions of individuals and organizations who have remarkably excelled in their respective fields of endeavours.

Speaking further, he said each of the awardees has demonstrated exceptional abilities, determination and unwavering commitment towards excellence. They have not only set new standards of excellence but have also become beacons of inspiration for others to follow.

He used the opportunity to call on President Bola Tinubu, State Governors and other leaders at all levels to provide responsible and responsive governance to address the current economic challenges being faced by Nigerians.

While delivering his papers on the role of social media in the development of the agriculture sector by the National Coordinator Zero Hunger Nigeria, Dr Tunde Arosoyin, stressed the critical roles social media can play in the development of the sector.

He said the need for Nigerians to go into mechanized farming to address the hunger challenges in Africa has become imperative using social media to access information that would be of great assistance in boosting the food supply chains on the continent, stressing that government of various countries in Africa need to deliberately encourage the people to return to the farm with modern system of practice.

Also speaking while delivering his paper titled, Nigeria and the personal perspective in politics,  Comrade Bala Ibrahim quoted W.H. Auden, a British-American poet, who says, that what you do, good or bad, people will always have something negative to say” stressing that whatever leaders does in Nigeria, good or bad, is viewed with suspicious by the people.

He called on those in prominent, or influential roles to be exceptionally careful to avoid even the appearance of impropriety or wrongdoing, pointing out that this is because their actions and decisions carry great weight and consequences, hence they have the responsibility to maintain public trust and confidence.

In his goodwill message, the former federal lawmaker, Hon. Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf commended the organiser of the event for putting together such an event to encourage people in leadership,  enjoined the media organization to keep doing the job in line with the ethics of the profession, for it is the only way to excel as an organization.

He used the occasion to eulogise the people of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency for allowing him to serve them for twelve years at the Federal House of Representatives and added that if such opportunity provides itself again soon, he is better equipped to perform better.

According to him, he is glad the little work he was able to do across communities in the federal Constituency when he had the opportunity to represent them is being recognized, pointing out that he will continue to do his best for the overall development of those communities.

Other recipients of the special recognition Awards were H.E. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, Niger State Governor, HE, Mrs Agyin Agbu Kefas, First Lady of Taraba State, Honourable Minister for Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, Senate Committee Chairman on Senate Services, Hon. Leke Abejide, House Committee Chairman on Customs and Excises, Hon. Labaran Madari, Minority Leader, Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Durosimi Meseko, Deputy National Publicity Secretary and member of the National Working Committee, APC, former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Matthew Kolawole, the President-General, Kabba Development Union, Engineer Emmanuel Ajibero, Regional Manager, Access Bank Plc, Adebanji Jimoh, etc.
