Ezzagu Zone Endorses Nwifuru For Second Term, Clamors For Ishielu Chairmanship Seat

Fidelis Anyigor

The people of the old Ezzagu zone in Ishielu Local government area of Ebonyi state have endorsed the second term bid of Governor Francis Nwifuru in the 2027 general election.

Briefing Journalists at the weekend, the National President of Ezzagu Zone General Assembly (EZGA), Chief Tobias Offia, agitated that it was the turn of Ezzagu zone to occupy the chairmanship position of the council in August 2026 LG poll.

The President narrated that it was a clear agreement that power would shift to Ezzagu zone after the completion of the two terms by the Ezillo people.

According to Chief Offia: “for about to 20 years, Ezzagu people have not gone to chairmanship position of Ishielu Local government area. In 2022, at a major stakeholders meeting in Ishielu, it was known that Ezillo and Ezzagu have not produced the chairmanship of the council”.

“We agreed that it since the capital of the council is at Ezillo, they should be allowed to produce the council chairman, after which power will come to Ezzagu zone. That agreement produced Hon. Obinna Onwe as chairman. We decided and agreed that Onwe will handover to Ezzagu based on equity, rotation and fairness. Obinna Onwe didn’t go for second term, which brought in Hon. Peace Agwu”.

“Mrs Agwu was brought to complete Obinna Onwe’s second tenure so that power will shift to Ezzagu zone in 2026. That was the accord reached by both stakeholders of Ezzagu and Ezillo, which was adopted by our Governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru”.

“And in view of the foregoing, Ezzagu people threw in their overwhelming supports to the council chairman including the former chairman. So we plead that equity and fairness, and balance Ezzagu should produce the next chairmanship. Ezillo has completed their second term”.

Meanwhile, the President General has assured that the people of Ezzagu Zone would vote massively vote for the reelection of Governor Francis Nwifuru in 2027.

Offia said that the construction of Ezillo to Ezzagu road by the present government appointments of their sons and daughters were the basis for the endorsement of the second term bid of the Governor.

He, however, lamented that since the creation of Ebonyi state, no Ezzagu man or woman has been appointed as commissioner into the State Executive Council or even board chairman, expressing hope that Nwifuru would continue to accommodate them.
