Federal Government Commences Free Medical Outreach in Kogi State

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in collaboration with the Kogi State Government, has launched a free two-day integrated medical outreach in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The outreach, implemented by OHIM Nigeria Ltd, commenced today and is scheduled to end tomorrow. It aims to provide essential healthcare services to residents, particularly in underserved communities.

Speaking at the flag-off, Dr. Godwin Olutayo, the Medical Officer in charge of the Isanlu General Hospital, described the initiative as a timely intervention that would bridge the gap in rural healthcare delivery.

“This outreach brings much-needed medical services closer to our people. We are grateful for the government’s commitment to health equity,” Dr. Olutayo stated.

The programme covers key medical services including eye care, surgeries, testing, and treatment for various ailments. A team of healthcare professionals from across the state and beyond have been deployed to ensure efficient service delivery.

Adamu Yusuf, a monitoring officer from NPHCDA Lokoja, stated the agency’s commitment to ensuring quality service delivery and proper documentation of beneficiaries.

Similarly, Mr. Aliyu Ayuba, responsible for resources monitoring and personnel supervision, commended the seamless coordination of the outreach, assuring that necessary support has been provided for a successful execution.

Dr. Olusegun Akere, the field implementor of the programme, lauded Dr. Muyi Aina, the Executive Secretary and CEO of NPHCDA, for his visionary leadership and commitment to primary healthcare delivery across the country. He noted that the outreach is a reflection of the agency’s proactive approach to meeting the health needs of Nigerians at the grassroots.

Dr. Akere added that the outreach is not only providing treatment but also enhancing awareness about preventive healthcare practices among residents.

Also present was Dr. Ewoh Philomena, a consulting optometrist, who led the eye care team. She confirmed that dozens of patients have already received eye screenings and treatments, with many scheduled for further intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Laja Adebayo expressed deep appreciation to the Federal Government, NPHCDA, and the Kogi State Government for bringing quality healthcare to the doorstep of the people.

“This outreach is a blessing. Many of us have not had access to proper medical care in a long time. We are truly grateful for this opportunity,” he said.

Mrs. Babagbade Folusegun also shared her gratitude, noting the professional and compassionate approach of the medical personnel.

“I came for an eye check and received treatment immediately. The doctors and nurses were kind and attentive. May God bless everyone involved in this programme,” she added.

The outreach continues tomorrow, with more residents expected to benefit from the wide range of medical services available.
