FG Approves Firefighter Station in Kabba, Okunland

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Fire Service, has approved a firefighter station in Kabba to enhance safety and reduce property loss.

This was disclosed yesterday by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, CG Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, while speaking during his official homecoming ceremony held at Olonijola Event Center, Kabba.

He used the occasion to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving him the opportunity, through the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Ojo, to contribute to the country’s overall development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said he’s glad to inform the gathering that the Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu, Barrister Zachuaeus Dare Michael, visited his office during the week, and the issue of having a firefighter station in Kabba came up.

He stressed that, in line with the discussion, the management has graciously approved the station with immediate effect.

He said he has informed the chairman to provide temporary office accommodations to house the personnel and equipment for immediate takeoff.

According to him, the service under his leadership has made giant strides in staff welfare, and over two thousand personnel have been promoted, a gesture that’s unprecedented.

He also said several reforms are ongoing in the service, and the act establishing the agency is outdated.

He further said that his leadership is working with the National Assembly to create a more robust act that meets international standards and enhances operations.

He said the service is open to partnerships, noting that Tetfund has agreed to build and equip firefighter stations across universities in Nigeria, and Tony Elumelu Foundation is also partnering with them.

He eulogized Governor Usman Ododo, who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Oyibo, and appreciated the Governor for sending a representative. He pledged to continue working with stakeholders nationwide to achieve the service’s core mandate.

Other speakers, including the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, Hon Duro Meseko, and the Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Education, Panshin, Hon Funsho Olumoko, commended CG Olumode for his purposeful leadership.

They urged him to continue being a good ambassador of Okun nation and Kogi State nationally.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts by different groups and prayers offered.

The official homecoming was organized by the Bunu Progressive Forum.

Dignitaries who attended the event included the representative of Senator Sunday Karimi, Hon Funsho Olorunfemi, Dr Femi Modeyin represented, Hon Idris Salman, Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Mrs) Comfort, Hon Shehu of Ofu, Hon Seyi Bello, Chief Friday Idashaba, Barrister Zacchaeus Dare Michael, Executive chairmwn, Kabba/Bunu LGA, Hon Wemi Jones, Dr Abanida, former Controller General of Federal Fire Service, Alhaji Lima, HRM Oba Solomon Owoniyi, Obaro of Kabba, and Chairman of Okun Area Traditional Council, HRM Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, Elulu of Mopa, among other traditional rulers in Okunland.
