FG endorses Workers’ support, advocacy group

Members of the Working People United (WoPU), Tuesday in Abuja rated and scored the Administration of President Bola Tinubu high with a call on every Nigerian to join hands in the support of continuity and good governance in the country.

Comrade (Prince) Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, Coordinator General, Working People United, in his address during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, CFR, said that their mission is to galvanise support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and promote national development through responsible leadership.

According to him, they are aimed at uniting all labour unions, artisans, farmers, and professionals across the country to support economic stability in the country.

“Working People United (WoPU), is a new Nigerian grassroots movement unveiled in March 2026 to support President Tinubu’s economic reforms and advocate for workers’ welfare. WoPU mobilises workers from all spheres of life, farmers and traders to support government policies while urging relief measures to combat rising fuel and living costs”, he said.

WoPU, he stated is desirous of offering a new voice for workers in the current administration’s policy direction and positioning themselves as a major force in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, adding that; “WoPU has already called on federal and state governments to urgently provide temporary relief measures and address the cost of living following the hike in fuel costs”.

He said that; “WoPU, in realising its aims and objectives, understudied the current administration and is convinced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a visionary leader and a true democrat who has, from the early 1990’s has, dared to change the status quo in the struggle for restoration of true democracy in Nigeria. This, of course, is evidenced by his commitment to National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) as a senator in the early 1990s, down to his tenure as Lagos State Governor, where he was overwhelmingly voted in, and he has done justice in setting the blueprint that has been in use and is still in use to date”.

Comrade Williams Akporeha added that;”Upon assuming office, President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, launched in May 2023, commenced with eliminating fuel subsidies, an act of courage that no government has done, which in turn sets in all other economic objectives of the current administration. These includes but not limited to; Unifying the foreign exchange market, and implementing tax reforms to foster growth, reduce debt, reduced cost of transportation with the introduction of CNG powered vehicles, refurbishment of refineries, encouraged the setting up of private owned refinery, revival of the defunct scholarship scheme which encourages indigent student to go to school, revival of rail transport system, granting Local Government autonomy, granting states the powers and autonomy to generate power, renewed agreement with ASUU with 40% increase in salaries to put an end to incessant strikes, fashioning new economic policies in the mining sector and attract investment”.

“Also, in the area of security, there have been tremendous efforts, which include the establishment of forest guards, encouraging state policing and collaboration with foreign nations on the need to improve security. While facing initial high inflation and cost-of-living challenges, these measures have led to significant improvements by early 2026, including stabilised exchange rates, reduced inflation, improved fiscal discipline, and a boost in foreign investor confidence”, he stated.

According to him, the current administration under the Leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also made great efforts at boosting the nation’s perception among the committee of nations, saying that; “This is evidenced by the willingness of nations to associate with the leadership, just as in the invitation by the British Monarch extended to the President and the USA’s willingness to collaborate on security and a host of other strategic engagements”.

In his words; “Therefore, based on the foregoing, WoPU has rated and scored the current administration high and is calling on every Nigerian to join hands in the support of continuity and good governance. We are hopeful that our individual and collective efforts will, by all means, take us through this journey of continuity, as doing otherwise will only hinder the success and growth of the seeds planted today. It is on this note that we are also requesting that you support this movement for a greater and better Nigeria”.

He also said that; “We will not fail to recognise the tremendous efforts you are putting behind the scenes to ensure that the president succeeds and delivers the renewed agenda to the Nigerian populace. It is on this ground that we deemed it fit to honour you today as a Distinguished Catalyst for the Renewed Hope Agenda, in recognition of the behind-the-scenes work that is driving the government to success”.

Responding, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, commended members of WoPU for the visit, describing it as timely.

While saying he was excited about the formation of the movement, he pledged collaboration and working partnership with WoPU.

He implored them to keep up the laudable work they have embarked upon for the good of the people and the nation.
