FORUM OF SENIOR CITIZENS ON ELONGATION OF SERVICE (FOSCEL)
Kano State

By Bala Salihu Dawakin kudu

PRESS STATEMENT
December 16, 2024
@12:00 Noon. Kano.

Gentlemen of the Press,

The Membership of the Forum of Senior Citizens on Elongation of Service (FOSCEL) hereby presents the following statement:

1. A Forum with the above name was established five months ago to present a unified position and course of action for Kano State civil servants due for retirement on December 30, 2024.

2. The membership of the Forum is based on shared interests arising from the recent decision by the present administration to discontinue the additional five years of service. This decision also set a common exit date for all affected civil servants. The move aims to streamline the workforce and inject fresh talent into the system.

3. The Forum’s members have acknowledged the wisdom of this decision and have fully complied with the directives set forth by the government.

4. We express our deep gratitude to His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, for including those on elongation of service in the new minimum wage scheme, which commenced in November 2024. We also commend the government for incorporating this into the calculation of our retirement benefits.

5. The Forum consists of members from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the state, all of whom are affected by the same exit date.

6. The Forum is committed to supporting the state government in its efforts toward improved service delivery in any way possible.

7. We assure the State Pension Board Trustees, the Pension Union, and its leadership that once members exit service, we will become dedicated members of the State Pension Union and adhere to its regulations.

8. Any civil servant due for retirement who has not yet reached out to the Forum is encouraged to come forward and enlist for the collective journey ahead.

9. Once again, we express our heartfelt appreciation to the foresight and compassion demonstrated by the Kano State Governor, his Cabinet, and key government officials in supporting retiring civil servants on elongation.

10. Thank you, and may Allah bless you all.
