FUPRE Secures NUC Approval to Offer B.Sc. Programs in Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Petroleum Management, Entrepreneurship

By Wilson Macaulay

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has officially received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce new undergraduate programs within its College of Petroleum Administration and Management, effective from the 2024/2025 academic session.
The newly approved programs include B.Sc. in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Procurement Management, Petroleum Information Management, and Entrepreneurship. Following a comprehensive evaluation by NUC experts, it was confirmed that FUPRE has the necessary resources to effectively deliver these programs, ensuring students gain the critical skills required to thrive in industries vital to Nigeria’s economic growth.
In a letter dated 25th February 2025 addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, the Executive Secretary of the NUC confirmed: “After careful consideration, the Executive Secretary has approved the establishment of the full-time mode for the following programs to be offered at the university’s main campus, effective from the 2024/2025 academic session: B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management, B.Sc. Procurement Management, B.Sc. Petroleum Information Management, and B.Sc. Entrepreneurship.”
The Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh FNES, expressed his gratitude to the NUC for their confidence in FUPRE, emphasizing, “This approval is a significant step forward in our mission to deliver globally competitive education. These new programs are carefully designed to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in logistics and supply chain management, procurement, petroleum information management, and entrepreneurship. We are excited to see our students lead and innovate in these vital sectors.”
He further remarked that with the introduction of these programs, FUPRE is poised to make a meaningful impact on the educational landscape, offering students opportunities to develop expertise in industries critical to Nigeria’s economy. These programs will equip graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the dynamic fields of logistics and supply chain management, procurement, energy management, and entrepreneurship.
This is a monumental step for FUPRE as it expands its academic offerings and reaffirms its commitment to producing industry-ready graduates, particularly in the oil and gas sector. The approval not only diversifies the university’s curriculum but also helps to create new opportunities for students to acquire relevant skills in critical sectors. The university’s leadership is confident that these programs will foster innovation, leadership, and growth in Nigeria’s vital industries.
The NUC’s approval of these undergraduate programs represents a major step forward for FUPRE and reaffirms the university’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates, particularly in the oil and gas sector, as it continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution for higher education in Nigeria, equipping students with the skills needed to drive innovation and growth in one of the nation’s most vital industries
