The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, has urged Muslims to strengthen the teaching and learning of the Holy Qur’an among children and youths, describing Islamic education as the bedrock of moral development, peaceful coexistence, and responsible leadership.
Dr. Gwamna made the call at the grand finale of the 2026 Nana Asma’u National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at the Federal College of Education, Gombe. He was represented by his wife, Hajiya Zainab Jamil Gwamna.
He stressed that parents and guardians must give priority to Qur’anic education, noting that children raised with sound Islamic values are more likely to become disciplined, law-abiding, and productive citizens who contribute positively to national development.
The APC flag bearer commended the organisers for sustaining the annual competition, describing it as a valuable platform for promoting Islamic scholarship, moral excellence, and the intellectual development of Muslim youths and women. He also praised the enduring legacy of Nana Asma’u, whose life continues to inspire the pursuit of knowledge, character, and service to humanity.
Dr. Gwamna reminded participants that the true essence of the Qur’an lies not only in its recitation but in living by its teachings. Quoting the saying of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), “The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others,” he encouraged Muslims to preserve and pass on Qur’anic knowledge to future generations as a pathway to a more peaceful, united, and morally upright society.
