Hon. Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf Bags ‘Icon of Public Service and Community Development’ Award

ABUJA — Former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf, has been honoured with the ‘Icon of Public Service and Community Development’ Award by _Democracy Newsline Newspaper_ for his outstanding contributions to nation-building and grassroots development.
The award was presented to him on Wednesday, 19th August 2026, during the 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame held at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Abuja.
The event, themed “Economic Reforms and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigerian Experience,” drew top government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry and civil society leaders from across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Publisher of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said Hon. Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf was recognized for his sterling legislative record, commitment to constituency development, and advocacy for good governance during his tenure in the National Assembly.
“Hon. Tajudeen Ayo Yusuf distinguished himself as a voice of the people. His interventions in education, healthcare, empowerment and infrastructure in his constituency remain a reference point in public service,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, the former lawmaker dedicated the award to the people of his constituency and to leaders who are working to strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
“I accept this prestigious award with humility and gratitude. Public service is about sacrifice and about putting the people first. To my constituents, thank you for the opportunity to serve you. To our leaders at all levels, let us continue to work for a Nigeria where democracy delivers real benefits to the people,” Hon. Yusuf said.
He commended Democracy Newsline Newspaper for sustaining the platform for 16 years to celebrate excellence, accountability and service to the nation.
The ceremony had in attendance Hon. Asiwaju Idris Asiru, Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, who delivered the keynote address; Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Hon. Minister of Interior; Senator Sunday Karimi; and other distinguished Nigerians inducted into the Good Governance Hall of Fame.
Hon. Yusuf urged political leaders across party lines to prioritize policies that improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians, create jobs, and expand access to education and healthcare.
The event ended with the induction of eminent Nigerians who have made significant contributions to national development and democratic governance.
