Ibori is Our Political Leader, Worth Celebrating at 67 – Says Hon. Sheriff Mulade

By Wilson Macaulay

Delta State – August 3, 2025: As former Delta State Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori marks his 67th birthday, tributes have continued to pour in from admirers, political allies, and grassroots leaders across Nigeria. Among the loudest voices is that of prominent Niger Delta peace advocate and environmentalist, Hon. Sheriff Mulade, who hailed Ibori as “an extraordinary political icon whose impact transcends generations.”

In a goodwill message made available to pressmen in Warri, Hon. Mulade described Chief Ibori as “a father figure, visionary, and political colossus whose legacy in Delta and Nigerian politics remains unmatched.” He noted that Ibori’s contributions to the advancement of democracy and development in the South-South region remain indelible and worthy of celebration.

> “Chief James Ibori is more than a former governor; he is a living legend, a unifier, and a beacon of hope for many aspiring leaders. At 67, he remains a political oracle whose wisdom and leadership style continue to inspire,” Hon. Mulade said.

He called on Deltans and Nigerians at large to honor and reflect on the enduring values Ibori brought to public service—especially his grassroots governance model and talent for building bridges across ethnic and political divides.

Mulade, who also doubles as the National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), emphasized that Ibori’s life should be studied and celebrated not only for his triumphs but for his unwavering commitment to the development of Delta State, even years after leaving office.

> “His Excellency Chief James Ibori is not just a man of the people; he is the people,” he added.

The birthday of the former governor, who served from 1999 to 2007, has become a symbolic annual event across the Niger Delta, often celebrated with community projects, tributes, and unity rallies.

The environmental Activist explained that Chief Ibori boldness and doggedness without political bias ended the famous Warri crisis and ushered in relative peace in Warri and environs till date .

Hon. Chief Sheriff Mulade concluded his message with prayers for long life, good health, and continued influence for Chief Ibori as he steps into another chapter of a splendid political journey.
