Independent Hisbah Will Not Disrupt Government Operations — Sheikh Ibn Sina

The Commander of the Hisbah Gandujiyya and Director of the Ganduje Foundation, Sheikh Muhammad Haruna Ibn Sina, has assured the public that the newly established independent Hisbah will not in any way obstruct or conflict with the activities of the Kano State Government–owned Hisbah Board.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Arewa Updates, Sheikh Ibn Sina explained that the private Hisbah initiative was created to support the government’s Hisbah, not to undermine it.

According to him, the new body will help reduce the workload of the official Hisbah Board by focusing on humanitarian and community-based services. He argued that Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf should view the development as a positive sign of progress and a blessing to Kano State.

“This independent Hisbah will only complement the efforts of the government’s Hisbah. It will reduce their burden. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ought to be happy because development is taking place during his tenure,” he said.

Sheikh Ibn Sina noted that members of the Hisbah community are excited about the new development, describing it as a step that will strengthen their moral and social interventions in society.

Addressing concerns from the public, Ibn Sina clarified that the independent Hisbah will not engage in arrests or disciplinary enforcement similar to the government Hisbah.
Instead, its operations will revolve around charity, moral guidance, community assistance, and social welfare activities.

He emphasized that the organization will also not use the official name “Hisbah Board” to avoid confusion with the government institution.

Sheikh Ibn Sina further revealed that former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje approved the establishment of the independent Hisbah to provide an avenue for Hisbah personnel who were allegedly removed from service by the current administration of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), popularly known as Kwankwasiyya.

According to him, the initiative aims to enable such officers to continue serving society and “carry on with the work of God” despite their removal.

The Hisbah institution plays a significant role in Kano State, engaging in moral policing, societal guidance, mediation, and community support rooted in Islamic principles.
With the introduction of an independent Hisbah, observers say the development may broaden the scope of social and humanitarian services in the state, provided that coordination with the government’s Hisbah Board is maintained.
