Jos North-North Assembly Seat: Abdulkadir Hassan Remains Authentic Candidate and Optimistic of Victory

By Peter Azi – Jos

The Jos North-North hopeful for the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkadir Hassan, fondly called S.L.A, says he remains focused, steadfast and optimistic of victory in both the litigation and the forthcoming general election.

He was reacting to an interim injunction granted by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja through an ex-parte motion in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1618/2026 filed by Hon. Adamu Aliyu.

The suit lists the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 1st Defendant, Hon. Abdulkadir Hassan as the 2nd Defendant, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the 3rd Defendant respectively.

The Plaintiff, Dr. Adamu Aliyu, who is reportedly under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations bordering on fraud, is challenging his party, the APC, and INEC for issuing an INEC form to Abdulkadir Hassan as the candidate of the APC.

Through the ex-parte motion, the Plaintiff sought to restrain INEC and the APC from recognizing Abdulkadir Hassan as the candidate for Jos North-North Constituency.

An ex-parte order or interim injunction is a legal decision made by a judge after listening to only one side of a dispute, without notifying or waiting for the other party to appear. In this situation, there is no prior notice and the other party does not know about or attend the initial request.

The ruling is temporary and lasts only a short time, usually a few days or weeks, until a formal hearing can take place. The court normally schedules a follow-up hearing so the other party can present its side and the judge can decide whether to sustain or vacate the order.

In the present circumstance, the court will determine whether Hon. Adamu Aliyu has the _locus standi_ to challenge the validity of the nomination of Hon. Abdulkadir Hassan, whose nomination and uploading of his name have already been concluded by the party and INEC. The issue of limitation of time will also be considered by the court.

In line with party guidelines, aggrieved parties are expected to exhaust all internal mechanisms before resorting to litigation. These and other arguments will be canvassed by the defendants.

Despite the interim order granted by the court, there is no cause for alarm.

Hon. Abdulkadir has called on his teeming supporters to remain calm, expressing hope that there will be victory for democracy and that the will of the electorate will be sustained. “There is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Hon. Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim adjourned the matter to 24th August, 2026 for hearing of the substantive suit.
