KOGI NGOs NETWORK KONGONET COMMEMORATES 33 YEARS OF KOGI STATE: A CALL TO ACTION FOR INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Today, we celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Kogi State, a momentous occasion that marks the formation of our beloved state from the old Benue and Kwara States by the then military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on August 27, 1991.

As we reflect on our journey, we acknowledge the immense potential that Kogi State boasts. Its abundant human and natural resources, strategic location as the confluence of major rivers, and its unique position bordering ten states, including the Federal Capital Territory.

Over the years, Kogi State has made significant strides, yet we recognize that there remains much to be done despite several missed opportunities.

The challenges we face demand renewed commitment and strategic interventions to harness our resources fully and foster sustainable development.

It is heartening to note that stakeholders, including the Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET), have been at the forefront of advocating for a robust and long-term development plan for our dear state. Our collective efforts have urged the state government to prioritize strategic planning and implementation to enhance the lives of all Kogites.

As we commemorate Kogi State @ 33, we call for the immediate kick-off of the implementation of our Strategic Development Framework, as outlined in the Kogi State 32-Year Development Plan (SDP).

This framework is not just a document; it is a roadmap to inclusive growth that will empower our communities, improve infrastructure, and create sustainable economic opportunities for all.

We urge every Kogite—citizens, government officials, civil society organizations, and the private sector—to unite in this endeavor.

Together, let us advocate for policies that promote equity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of governance and development.

It is on this note, we strongly call on the current administration under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to immediately approve the State Action Plan (SAP) and operationalize the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Co- creation platform to serve as a buffer to the attainment of the much awaited development of the state.

It is imperative that we engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration to ensure that no one is left behind in our quest for progress.

As we celebrate our past, let us also envision a future where Kogi State stands as a beacon of development, resilience, and unity. Now is the time to act—let us embark on this journey together for a brighter, more inclusive Kogi State.

Happy 33rd anniversary to Kogi State!

Signed:
