Kogi Assembly Speaker makes case for APC as best option for power rotation to west

…restate call for matter to have legislative backing, commissions party secretariat at Kabba/Bunu

24th October, 2023

The speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has urged the people of Kogi West to support the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the November 11 gubernatorial election to ensure the realisation of power shift to the senatorial district.

He stated this on Tuesday in an address during a Stakeholders Meeting held in Kabba, the political headquarters of the senatorial district where he informed the people that APC remains the best option for them and the state in general.

This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja by the Chief Press Secretary to the speaker, Yabagi Mohammed.

Rt Honourable Umar appealed to the people to vote en masse for the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to enable him consolidate on the gains of democracy so far recorded under Governor Yahaya Bello in view of the beautiful programmes designed to the benefit of the state.

The speaker went down memory lane to inform the people that early nationalists such as Pa Sunday Awoniyi and others made necessary sacrifices to ensure the creation of the state with the necessary environment created for its takeoff, noting that even though they did not succeed in seeing someone from the area becoming the Governor before their demise, it is still possible if they play their political cards well.

He noted that the east had led the state for several years and that providence has taken it to Kogi Central, noting that the current Assembly that he leads, is ready to use the power of the legislature to bring about a law to ensure power sharing agreement was reached among the three senatorial districts.

With such a law, he noted, the people of the state would be able to peacefully enjoy power one area after the other, without any rancour.

The speaker thereafter commissioned APC party secretariat in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, with the secretary to the state government, Folashade Arike Ayoade in attendance just as the immediate past speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole, Commissioners, legislators and other party leaders also present.
