Kogi Education Commissioner Assumes Duty, Harps On Teamwork, Punctuality

By Stephen Adeleye

Lokoja, Feb. 2, 2024

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has urged the management staff of the ministry to embrace teamwork, discipline and punctuality as ingredients to transforming the state’s education sector to next levels.

Jones made the call at a meeting with the staff of the ministry on Friday in Lokoja, when he officially resumed duty as Kogi Education Commissioner under the new Administration of His Excellence, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Jones, who served for four years as Education commissioner under the immediate past Governor, Alh Yahaya Bello, was reappointed by Gov. Ododo, and sworn-in with other Commissioners on Wednesday.

He expressed his gratitude to God for the Grace giving to him to be back in the ministry to serve in the same capacity as the Honorable Commissioner for Science and Technology.

Jones appreciated the former Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for the confidence reposed in him and for given him all the needed support and encouragement to succeed under his New Direction leadership.

He thanked Gov. Ododo for giving him another privilege to serve the people of the state, and the determination of the governor to give the ministry all the needed support to achieving greater success.

Jones noted that the past four years in the ministry was laying a solid foundation which would be built upon in the next four years to ensure total and speedy transformation of the state’s education sector to global standards.

“In the next four years, we shall be building on the solid foundation we have laid, and it will require the maximum support of all of us who started the foundation.

“In building on this foundation, we will strictly observe the ethics of teamwork, discipline and punctuality which are the vital principles of any business,” Jones said.

The commissioner stressed that there are lots of policies to be implemented in the next four years, and solicited the continued support and cooperation of the management and staff of the ministry.

Jones emphasised that education remained the bedrock for any sustainable development, saying without education the people would be deformed, blind and incapacitated.

He disclosed that the ministry would be focusing on aggressive supervision and monitoring of schools across the state for effective and quality education delivery to the citizenry.

He added that the Ministry would also create a mechanism that would ensure synergies and monitoring among its agencies and departments to achieving the common goal of quality education delivery.

The commissioner assured that the ministry would continue to take the lead among all other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.

Earlier, the Director Administration and Supply, Mrs. Omolayo Berikisu. who spoke on behalf of the Permanent Secretary and other Directors, welcomed the commissioner back to the ministry, and prayed for God’s divine guidance for greater achievements.

She assured the commissioner of the unwavering support of the staff and management of the ministry to accomplishing the desired success in his second tenure.
