KOGI FLOOD: FG APPROVES RECONSTRUCTION OF GANAJA ROAD, DESIGNS ALTERNATIVE ROUTE THROUGH NYAMANYAMA ROAD

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the reconstruction of the bad portion of the Ganaja road in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital to salvage the road from yearly flooding.

In a joint assessment between the Kogi State Ministry of Works and Housing, the the Federal Road Maintenance Agency and Gitto Construction Company today 10/10/2023 in Lokoja, Engr Onafuye Olayinka
Federal Controller of Works ( Deputy Director) also revealed the state of readiness of the new design for the entire road.

In his word
“The contract is Special Repair of the 700M flooded/bad portion of Ganaja road.
The job is awarded to Messrs Gitto Nig. Ltd.
The scope of work includes:
Removal of unsuitable material to 500mm depth
Provision of hard core and granular materials.
Provision of concrete (rigid) pavement, and
Embarkment protection work
Provision of Solar-Powered Street Light.
The Contractor has mobilized to site and has commenced work execution.
However, the Design for the 7km dual carriageway from the Ganaja Junction Flyover to Ganaja roundabout in Ganaja village with spur through Nyamanyama/500 Unit Housing Road is almost completed and awaiting approval for award by Federal Ministry of Works & Housing” He said.

Responding, the Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing Hon. Samson Bako thanked President Ahmed Bola Timubu led administration for the swift response to the call of Gov Yahaya Adoza Bello on the Federal Government over the flooded part of the Ganaja road.

Recall that on the 23rd August 2023,
the Minister for Works Dave Umahi, has promised to redesign the Lokoja- Ganaja-Ajaokuta Express road in view of its strategic importance as the gateway between the Northern and the Eastern parts of the country.

Umahi made the promise during his maiden working visit to Kogi State.

He was responding to Governor Bello who had highlighted the road as the major link road between the North and South.

The minister expressed gratitude for the governor’s warm reception upon his appointment and for his dedication to the betterment of Kogi State.

Bako finally urged Kogites to reciprocate the kind gesture of Gov Bello by voting massively the candidate of All Progressive Congress, Alh Ahmed Usman Ododo come 11/11/2023 for consolidation.
