Kogi Govt. Harp’s on robust relationship with working Journalists

Kogi State Government says they remain committed in maintaining a robust cordial relationship with working journalists to move the state forward.

The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Media Hon. Ismaila Isah disclosed this during the unveiling of the first annual media report in Kogi State held at the banquet hall on Wednesday.

Isah asserted that the maiden annual report represents accountability and purposeful leadership of the present administration in the State.

The media aide reiterates that Governor Ododo’s administration has developed a matrix for media assessment, stressing that, the State have continued to receive global commendations for the tremendous achievement in Kogi State in the last 14 months.

He, however, appreciated the Executive Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for finding him worthy in his appointment, adding that, the creation of media centre at the government house plays a pivotal roles in propagating the activities the present administration.

His words, “It is a moment that marks a new chapter in the way we engage with the people of Kogi State and the wider world through various media channels. Today is not just about numbers or data. It is a reflection of our commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability.

“The launch of this report signals a new era of communication in our administration, one that emphasizes the importance of keeping records and preserving information about how we keep our citizens well-informed and actively engaged in the process of governance.

“We believe that effective governance is not just about delivering services but ensuring that our people are connected and informed every step of the way.
This Annual Media Performance Report is the first of its kind in Kogi State. It tracks and evaluates media coverage of our administration from January 2024 to January 2025, providing us with valuable insights into how well we are communicating with the public and shaping perceptions.

He added that, over the past year, the State have recorded more than 6,000 media mentions across television, radio, print and digital platforms.

Continuing, he said ” This demonstrates our commitment to transparency and continuous flow of information to the people of Kogi State and beyond about our policies and programmes.

“However, is not just the quantity of media coverage that matters, but the quality. The sentiment behind these mentions, how our Messages are framed, and their impact on public discourse are equally critical. Through a combination of advanced media monitoring tools and traditional metrics, this report shows that our messages are not only reaching the audience but also fostering trust and positively shaping the narrative around governance in Kogi State.

“I am aware that this report is the result of a collective effort, a collaboration between Various ministries, departments, agencies, and working with the Special Adviser on Media. His leadership and tireless dedication have been key to the success of this initiative, and I want to take this opportunity to personally commend him and his team for their outstanding performance.

“As we look to the future, the insights derived from this report will help us refine and enhance our communication strategies. It will guide us in continuously improving how we engage with the people, ensuring that our messages are clear, impactful, and aligned with our goal of open, transparent, and accountable governance.

“Let me take a moment to extend my sincere gratitude to the media, the journalists, reporters,
and editors who play pivotal roles in keeping the public informed about the activities of our administration.

“Your professionalism, commitment, and partnership have been indispensable in ensuring that Kogi State remains connected to its citizens. Let me also use this medium to reaffirm our commitment to an open and responsive governance”.

Speaking on the State media impression, the Chairman, Federated Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council, Michael Abu in his submissions noted that Governor Ododo has done beyond the expectation of the people.

He described the annual media report as a pathfinder in view of the resources put together towards ensuring that, Kogi State is

Abu, who is the publisher of the Nigeria Post newspaper called for more budgetary allocation for the second editions of the media report.

“This report is comprehensive and educative. I must commend the leader of Governor media team for putting this together for the world to see the good work of Kogi State Government. Let this be a document to serve as reference for other States to emulate”.

 

He urged the State government to improve on the reward system for media practitioners, adding that, despite their efforts in propagating the image of state, they are less rewarded.

Adding his voice, the Vice President Zone D, Nigeria Union of Journalists, MomohJimoh Adeiza called on the State Government to do the need to improve the lives of working journalists in Kogi State.
