Kogi Police Intensify Rescue Operation as Joint Forces Comb Forests Over Idah–Dekina Abduction

By Our Correspondent

The Kogi State Police Command has reaffirmed that coordinated rescue and bush-combing operations are ongoing following the recent abduction incident along the Idah–Dekina axis of the state.

The Command, in a follow-up response to press inquiries, said the joint security operation commenced in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026, and is being coordinated by the Commanding Officer of the 77 PMF Squadron, Okene, ACP M. D. Adamu.

According to the Police, the operation involves personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, military, Department of State Services (DSS) and local hunters, who are working jointly to locate and rescue the victims.

The security teams are currently conducting intensive bush-combing operations across identified forest corridors around Anejukolo–Egume, Ipadala–Egume and Alade–Egume in Dekina Local Government Area.

The Command also disclosed that surveillance has been strengthened along major highways within the area of responsibility as part of efforts to prevent further incidents and enhance the security of the affected communities.

The Police explained that the operational teams are currently in the field and have been given the necessary space to concentrate on the mission without undue distractions.

It cautioned members of the public against interpreting the gradual release of information as a sign of inactivity, stressing that concerted efforts are being sustained to achieve a breakthrough and secure the safe recovery of the abducted victims.

“The operational teams are presently on the field, and the Command is allowing them the necessary operational space to remain focused on the ongoing mission,” the statement noted.

The Command further assured the public that the joint operation would continue until the desired objective is achieved.

It added that verified developments would be communicated to the public as they become available, while appealing for understanding as security personnel continue efforts to bring the operation to a successful conclusion.

The development underscores the renewed efforts by security agencies and local stakeholders to contain criminal activities along the Idah–Dekina corridor and restore confidence among residents and road users in the affected areas.
