Kogi Poly Rector Hails Tinubu, Wife Over Student Loan, Welfare Programmes

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for introducing policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Avidime specifically lauded the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a landmark intervention that has expanded access to higher education, while also praising the First Lady’s humanitarian initiatives targeted at women and other vulnerable groups.

The rector spoke on the sidelines of the First Lady’s one-day working visit to Kogi State, during which she commissioned key projects and flagged off an empowerment programme for more than 2,000 women across the state.

A statement by the Polytechnic’s Acting Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, quoted Avidime as saying that the Federal Government’s education and social investment programmes were making positive impacts on the lives of many Nigerian families.

During the visit, Senator Tinubu, accompanied by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other dignitaries, commissioned the ultra-modern Kogi State Pension and Treasury House, launched the National Community Food Bank at the Government House, Lokoja, to strengthen food security and provide relief for vulnerable households.

The rector also mobilised members of the Polytechnic community to participate in the reception for the First Lady, with students turning out in large numbers to welcome her with cultural displays, songs, drumbeats and trumpet performances.

He said the impressive outing reflected the institution’s support for government programmes aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and promoting sustainable development.

Avidime further commended the First Lady for what he described as her compassion and commitment to humanitarian service, noting that her visit underscored a shared commitment to improving the quality of life of Nigerians.

He also congratulated Governor Ododo and the First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, for successfully hosting Senator Tinubu, praising the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development, human capital development and good governance.

“The government can be assured that our institution will continue to support every effort that advances education, promotes human capital development and enhances the well-being of our people,” he said.

The rector also appreciated the Dean of Student Services, Mr Umar Abdulmumuni, participating staff members, the Students’ Union Government, the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), and students of the institution for their discipline and conduct throughout the visit.

He reaffirmed Kogi State Polytechnic’s commitment to partnering with the Kogi State Government in advancing education, promoting civic responsibility and contributing to the socio-economic development of the state.
