By Our Correspondent
In a major step toward cementing party unity and fostering lasting peace across Kogi State, the Kogi State Peace and Reconciliation Committee paid a consultative visit to the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, at his Abuja residence on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Opening the high-level parley, the Chairman of the Committee and former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, disclosed that the committee had so far engaged 52 prominent sons and daughters of the state in its ongoing peace mission.
Arc. Awoniyi highlighted key recurring themes emerging from the committee’s nationwide consultations with aggrieved stakeholders, which include:
* Issues surrounding primary elections;
* The party’s reward system;
* Perceived lopsidedness in political appointments;
* Unfair distribution of development projects; and
* The resolution of the Faleke/Ododo leadership friction.
Responding during the meeting, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko commended the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for constituting the reconciliation committee. He described the initiative as a visionary step demonstrating exemplary leadership and a profound commitment to sustainable peace.
Addressing party leaders and stakeholders present, Meseko emphasized that enduring unity in Kogi State must be firmly anchored on equity, fairness, and balanced inclusion across all three senatorial districts to ensure every citizen feels a true sense of belonging.
Warning that “a house divided against itself cannot stand,” the APC national officer urged party faithful to set aside personal ambitions and temporary grievances in pursuit of total reconciliation. He stressed that electoral victory remains unattainable under internal friction and called on delegates and stakeholders to constructively resolve contending issues to present a unified front for the party and the state’s development.
Meseko further cautioned political leaders against listening to individuals who deal in falsehoods, noting that dishonesty breeds distrust and undermines collective growth. Proposing actionable solutions to the ongoing political disharmony, he urged party leaders to make clear public pronouncements that assure those feeling marginalized of fairness, justice, and equity.
The meeting mutually underscored the urgent need for continuous, robust dialogue among party leaders to address grievances proactively before they escalate.
Concluding the session, the Peace and Reconciliation Committee assured that all options and recommendations raised during the consultation would be comprehensively captured in its final report at the end of the assignment.
Members of the committee delegation present at the Abuja meeting included DCP Adejoh Yusuf (rtd.), Arc. Mohammed Sule, Alh. Ahmodu Abubakar Sidiq, Pharm. Jamiu Asuku, and Mr. Bode Ogunmola, among other notable party leaders.
